Synopsis

Set in contemporary Bangalore, Nambbikeya Nrithya follows Sathya, a determined classical dancer navigating the fragile line between artistic purpose and social expectation. After a performance that brings applause but little security, she returns home to a life shaped by responsibility, to her widowed mother, to financial survival, and to a dream larger than herself. While friends choose marriage, migration, and stability, Sathya remains rooted to an audacious vision: to build a space where street children can access the discipline, dignity, and transformative power of classical dance. Viral moments, failed sponsors, fractured relationships, and personal setbacks test her resolve, forcing her to confront what she is willing to sacrifice and what she refuses to surrender. As opportunity finally arrives in unexpected form, Sathya must decide whether to bend, to compromise, or to leap entirely on faith. In a world that measures success in comfort and conformity, can she prove that art and conviction are enough?

Vision

Starring Prateeksha Kashi, this immersive theatre production draws from the lived experiences of dancers and the invisible struggles that shape their artistic journeys. Set in 2016 and filmed in a style reminiscent of pro-feminist cable television dramas in India, the work mirrors a paradoxical cultural moment narratives that champion female strength and independence, yet still subtly reinforce societal pressures around marriage, conformity, and prescribed roles for women. Against this backdrop, the story reflects a rapidly modernising India where the classical dancer is publicly celebrated but often economically and socially undervalued.

Through layered storytelling and performance, the production foregrounds the resilience, conviction, and courage required to carve a path in the arts while negotiating expectation, duty, and identity. It is both a cultural reflection and a quiet rebellion an ode to dance practitioners everywhere who persist despite financial, social, and emotional odds.
